Join us on Zoom next Thursday, February 16th at 12h00, Lisbon time, to participate in a seminar about the uses and limitations of ChatGPT, OpenAI's new AI software, and its impact on education. Stefano Calboli will give a presentation on the topic.
Abstract
In this brief presentation I discuss the impact of two products by Open-Ai, chat-GPT and GPT-3 on students’ comprehension, their evaluation by professional educators, and how the latter operates.
I begin by giving some basic information on chat-GPT and GPT-3 and outlining what lies behind their ability to respond properly (often, not always) to prompts. I move on to critically overview the scientific literature and opinions expressed by authoritative scientific magazines and newspapers. I conclude by advancing some take-home messages hinging on the belief that AI-based tools are here to stay and we all – students and professional educators included – have to learn to live with it.
