Jorge Mateus is a doctoral researcher at the Centre for Ethics, Politics and Society at the University of Minho. His research focuses on the dialogue between the philosophies of transhumanism and bioconservatism concerning human enhancement and the ethical and political meaning and relevance of human essence in post-metaphysical philosophy. He is currently exploring the possibility of reforming and adapting C. B. Macpherson’s notion of creative individualism to ground a biopolitical specific alternative defined as developmental democratic transhumanism.
Research interests:
Essentialism, Biopolitics, Human Enhancement, Philosophy of Technology, Democratic Transhumanism.
